When the Venetians took over the city…

Built during the 14th century…

Othello’s Tower is a citadel, which forms part of the fortifications of the ancient walled city of Famagusta. It owes its name to the period of British rule, marking its connection with the Governor of Cyprus, Christoforo Moro, who is said to have inspired Shakespeare’s play, Othello.

The fortress of Othello’s Tower dates from the Lusignan period, and was built during the 14th century. At that time it was probably a royal residence, and later became a garrison. There are wonderful views from the top of Othello’s Tower over the city of Famagusta.
