Whether you are an experienced diver or a complete beginner, North Cyprus is one of the best locations to go Scuba Diving in the world. The Cyprus coastline provides vast underwater treasures to explore and diving in North Cyprus is an experience you will never forget.
Here at Cyprus Premier, we have teamed up with Amphora Scuba Diving, a recognised PADI 5 Star Dive Centre (the Best 100 Dive Centres In the World) and Gold Palm IDC resort, to offer a wide range of scuba diving packages to suit all abilities and ages.
The Northern Cyprus coastline has been unspoilt for centuries, and offers lots to explore, unlike the Southern Cyprus coast, which has been destroyed by over development and over diving, leaving very few treasures left for divers to experience. North Cyprus offers over 200 miles of coastline, as well as one of the longest diving seasons in the Mediterranean.
One of the best places in Northern Cyprus for diving is Kyrenia, as the mountain range drops steeply at least 25+ metres into the sea, offering marine life of all shapes and sizes to explore. Octopus, turtles, shoaling fish and shipwrecks await you here, and there is something new to see every time you dive. One of the most magnificent sights is the site of the 2,300 year old wreck at 'Fred Reef' just outside of Kyrenia. This ancient wreck site was home to the oldest trading ship known throughout the world, which now has been preserved in Kyrenia's Shipwreck Museum.
Even though the wreck has been removed from the site, there is still much to explore on the seabed around Kyrenia - A mile away is the site where a few years ago the front portion of a ‘super caravelle jet aircraft’ was sunk for divers to explore. Also, the site of an ancient Roman shipwreck just west of Kyrenia is well worth a visit, as the remains of this ancient vessel still exist in the shallow waters. Treasures such as amphora and delicate oil lamps lay untouched in the sand.
Many Second World War ships and planes have been discovered in the sea beds around Kyrenia. One in particular, a ‘Wellington Bomber’ has been discovered, photographed and written about, went into the sea to the east of Kyrenia near to the power station). Even though the aeroplane is broken up on the sea bed, spanning an area of around 300 metres, at a depth of 24 metres, there is still an enormous amount to see and discover here.
