The best time to visit North Cyprus to see as many birds as possible are the migratory seasons of spring and autumn. Around 46 of these are native species with a few endemic sub-species of birds to be found. Some birds migrate to Cyprus specifically for breeding purposes and the island is used as an ideal stopping off point for many species who are in transit to other countries. The wetlands around Famagusta and salt lake in Larnaca are excellent places to spot migratory birds. There are also various small reservoirs in North Cyprus which have been built to catch the mountain water that will attract passing birds. Visitors who arrive between March and May as well as late August to October will be rewarded with many sightings of various species.
Visit Famagusta or various mountain reservoirs during the spring and autumn seasons to see as many birds as possible, with over 300 species passing through at that time of year.
